This piece was an attempt to both express and raise awareness of major depressive disorder. The feelings that come with this disorder can be extremely confusing and hard to explain.
This painting represents one of the more common manifestations of depression, which is a complete lack of feeling. It’s as if you’re hollow inside, unable to experience any of the emotions that make life worth living. It doesn’t seem too bad at first, but over time it takes a toll on you. You become so desperate to just feel, but no matter how hard you try, you can’t. While you might fake smiles and laughter around others, inside you are an empty, dark hole.
